Adaptation to Climate Change Effects by Cultivar and Sowing Date Selection for Maize in the Northeast China Plain

چکیده

Cultivar and sowing date selection are major factors in determining the yield potential of any crop region. To explore how climate change affects these choices, this study performed a regional scale analysis using well-validated APSIM-maize model for Northeast China Plain (NEC) which is leading maize (Zea mays L.) producing area China. Results indicated that high temperature had significantly negative effect on grain yield, while effective accumulated solar radiation significant positive effects kernel number. Cloudy rainy weather flowering stage Delayed led to less cloudy during reduced Higher diurnal thermal range precipitation grain-filling also increased 1000-kernel weight. sowing, however, risk early senescence frost (>80%) middle latitude areas. In areas NEC, long-season cultivar (LS) under (I) (6.2–19.9%) was higher than medium (II) or late (III), an sown short-season (SS) medium-season (MS). low MS I III, meanwhile, SS LS. Therefore, warming, LS earlier latitudes were appropriate could mitigate stress temperatures reduce frost. measures alleviate production provides valuable advice breeders selection, choice varieties dates farmers actual production.

Effects of climate change and cultivar on summer maize phenology

To identify countermeasures to the effects of climate warming on crop production, we mustunderstand the changes in crop phenology and the relationships between phenology and climatechange and cultivar. We used summer maize phenological and climate data in the North ChinaPlain, collected from 1981 to 2010. This study analyzed the spatiotemporal trends inphenological data and lengths of different...

Projected Crop Production under Regional Climate Change Using Scenario Data and Modeling: Sensitivity to Chosen Sowing Date and Cultivar

A sensitivity analysis of the responses of crops to the chosen production adaptation options under regional climate change was conducted in this study. Projections of winter wheat production for different sowing dates and cultivars were estimated for a major economic and agricultural province of China from 2021 to 2080 using the World Food Study model (WOFOST) under representative concentration...

Analysis of Maize Yield under Climate Change, Adaptations in Varieties and Planting Date in Northeast China in Recent Thirty Years

The Northeast China (NEC) was the most important agriculture areas and known as the Golden-Maize-Belt. Based on observed crop data and crop model, we design four simulating experiments and separate relative impacts and contribution under climate change, planting date shift, and varieties change as well change of varieties and planting date. Without planting date and varieties change, maize yiel...

Adaptation to climate change through the choice of cropping system and sowing date in sub-Saharan Africa

Multiple cropping systems provide more harvest security for farmers, allow for crop intensification and furthermore influence ground cover, soil erosion, albedo, soil chemical properties, pest infestation and the carbon sequestration potential. We identify the traditional sequential cropping systems in ten sub-Saharan African countries from a survey dataset of more than 8600 households. We find...

Using simulation models to investigate the cumulative effects of sowing rate, sowing date and cultivar choice on weed competition

With the increasing pressure on crop production from the evolution of herbicide resistance, farmers are increasingly adopting Integrated Weed Management (IWM) strategies to augment their weed control. These include measures to increase the competitiveness of the crop canopy such as increased sowing rate and the use of more competitive cultivars. While there are data on the relative impact of th...
